The First Gen College project has begun. Woo hoo!
Welcome to our new website. Through this site, you will have an opportunity to see and hear the stories of first generation college students* and recent graduates and learn about the different projects we are developing with these stories.
Our first big undertaking will be a Northern California college road trip in February. We will be visiting young people at six college campuses around the state and filming our visits and interviews with them. You can see the map of our destinations here.
Katka Reszke, our cinematographer and co-producer, will be joining me on my Northern California college road trip. The first stop is Camarillo, CA, meeting with a recent graduate of Cal State Channel Islands, on Tuesday, February 9. Then it’s off to Berkeley, California, on Wednesday, February 10. We will be traveling for almost two weeks. Stay tuned for more updates. We will be posting pics and highlights from the road, so please follow us on Instagram and please subscribe to this blog for updates.
*As a point of clarification, according to the Center for Student Opportunity, “a first generation college student is anyone whose parents or guardians have not completed a four-year college degree. We know that students who don’t have a family history of higher education require support and encouragement sometimes not found at home, in school, or in the community.”
