First Gen College Students

• 50% of college and university students today are first generation college students (according to a 2010 study by the U,S. Department of Education)
• About 50% of all first generation college students in the US come from low income communities.
• They are more likely to be members of a racial or ethnic minority group.

According to a study published in American Psychological Association, 61% percent of first generation college students want to give back to their community after graduating, contrasting with the 43% of non-first generation college students.
